Sophie Lee is a visual artist based in Meanjin (Brisbane), working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media. Her layered, process-driven practice explores the tension between internal and external environments, reflecting on the grounding potential of place and the impacts of industrialisation and societal structures on daily life. Sophie’s commitment to experimentation has led her to develop a body of work spanning abstraction and impressionism, informed by slow engagement with places and communities.
Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions, pop-up events, and community zines across Queensland and Australia, including the Feel Good Art Prize, Incognito Art Show, and Four Studios One Space Pop-Up Studio at Caloundra Regional Gallery, where she delivered live demonstrations and connected with visitors. Recognised as a finalist in the Feel Good Art Prize and Brain Art and Writing Competition, and as Readers’ Choice in the Big Day Art Award, Sophie was also named a Homiens Promoted Artist. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design with an elective major in Fine Art and a Graduate Certificate in Marketing from Griffith University, where she received two Awards for Academic Excellence and two subject prizes.
Sophie actively contributes to the arts community through mentoring emerging artists through the Duke of Edinburgh Award program and giving an independent voice for local artists through her own Jam zine, and contributions to the Inkstains zine and Woodford Community Zine. Sophie draws on her professional background as a communication and engagement leader to foster dialogue and connections through art.
